Cheap Things To Do This Weekend, June 8-10

We’re sorry, but this weekend = Prometheus weekend. Everything else is secondary. But we’ll be nice and give you some suggestions of what to do with the rest of your free time.

Friday, June 8th

  • Ribfest
    Lincoln Ave & Irving Park Rd | North Center | Friday – Sunday
    Live music and plentiful barbecued meats make Ribfest a summertime tradition. Catch a professional rib eating contest Friday night, and listen to any number of musical acts play throughout the weekend. Our personal favs are The Spinto Band (Friday) and Megafaun (Saturday), but you can check out the full line-up here. $5 suggested donation
  • Midsommarfest
    5200 N Clark St | Andersonville | Friday – Sunday
    This north-side street festival features a variety of musical acts and vendors. Browse Andersonville’s many one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants for great deals all weekend long. $5 suggested donation
  • Chicago Blues Festival
    Grant Park | Friday – Sunday
    We don’t really have to explain this one, do we? Go see Mavis Staples on Sunday. Why? BECAUSE ITS MAVIS STAPLES. AND ITS FREE.

Saturday, June 9th

  • World Naked Bike Ride
    Starts at 1025 W Randolph | 6 pm
    If you’re looking for an excuse to get naked in public, look no further than the World Naked Bike Ride. Join hundreds of bikers as you ride along an undisclosed route through the city in your birthday suit. A meet-and-greet (and body painting) session is held from 6-8 pm at “O” of Harpo Studios, with the ride commencing after.
  • Printers Row Lit Fest
    Dearborn between Congress & Polk | Printers Row | Satuday & Sunday 
    Writers and readers unite for the annual Printers Row Lit Fest. Peruse used books, listen to speakers, enter writing contests, and stretch your brain at the Define-a-thon during this two day event.  Admission is free!
  • Latrice Royal @ Hydrate
    3458 N Halsted St | Boystown | 11 pm – 5 am
    Treat yo’ self to the chunky yet funky Latrice Royal of Ru Paul’s Drag Race fame. Ms. Royal will be joined by fellow RPDR alum, and home town hero, Dida Ritz at Hydrate Nightclub in Boystown. These divas have a huge following, so get there early! $15 cover at the door

Sunday, June 10th

  • Lawn Bowling Open House
    6300 S. Lake Shore Dr | Jackson Park | 1 pm – 4 pm
    Momma always said that you should learn something new every day. This Sunday, that something could be the sport of lawn bowling. The Lakeside Lawn Bowling Club will be holding an open house for anyone interested in the game at their regular meeting spot in Jackson Park. Equipment is provided, so all you need to bring is a positive attitude and some flat soled shoes.
