So you don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend just to stand outside day drinking, binge eating and listening to live music simultaneously??? No problem! There are plenty of killer street fests this summer where you can have fun without breaking the bank.
Check out our picks for must-attend street fests in June!
Weekend of June 8-10:
RIBFEST CHICAGO | Lincoln/Damen/Irving Park
Carnivores FTW! All the ribs your heart desires and some sweet music to boot! If five-part harmonies, dancing and awkward Bernie Mac references are your thing, make sure to check out The Spinto Band on Friday night. Perhaps you’d prefer your rib-eatin’ to be soundtracked by some good ol’ fashioned rock-n-roll with a Southern twang? The Features on Saturday night will meet that need. Nashville represent! Check out the official Ribfest website for more info and the official music lineup. $5 Suggested Donation.
PRINTERS ROW LIT FEST | Dearborn/Congree/Polk
Presented by the Chicago Tribune, Printers Row Lit Fest features close to 200 booksellers from across the country and seven stages with more than 100 free literary programs. For more information, visit their official website. FREE when you print a ticket off the website.
Weekend of June 16-17:
TASTE OF RANDOLPH STREET | Randolph/Peoria/Racine
One of the city’s largest street fests, Taste of Randolph is six blocks of amazing food (BBQ!) and a solid music lineup: Los Campesinos!, Those Darlins, Hollows and The Hold Steady, just to name a few. Admission is a bit high at $10, but really what’s ten bucks compared to Lolla’s $200+ price tag? More info and a full music lineup on their official website.
6 Corners BBQ Fest | Six Corners
Two words: Corey Hart. That’s right, Mr. “I Wear My Sunglasses at Night” will make an appearance as the Portage Park Community attempts to break the Guinness World Record for most people wearing sunglasses in the dark. I wish I was brilliant enough to make something like this up, but I’m not. Oh yeah, BBQ will also make an appearance at 6 Corners BBQ Fest.
Week of June 23-24:
Green Music Fest | Damen/North/Schiller
The street festival that wants to give Mother Earth a great, big hug. Dinosaur Jr. and The Raveonettes will headline and craft beer will be flowin’. Visit their official website for more info. $5 suggested donation.
